WEEK EIGHT -- SHOOTING/CONTROL

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

Stuck in the mud 20x20

Players dribble around area, 2 catchers must try and kick their ball out, if their ball gets kicked out they must retrieve it and stand with their ball above their head and legs open, team mates must pass ball through players legs to free them

Head up, keep ball close free team mates as quick as possible, use laces to dribble quickly

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Shooting in 2’s

Players stand 5 yards away from each other, players must shoot through partners legs, each time they successfully strike through they get 1 point, once a player reaches 5 points they take a step back

Strike with laces, keep ball on ground, bend knee, get knee over the top of the ball, follow through in direction of target

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Subs and Torpedoes 20x10 yard area

Coach has balls up long side of box, players line up at one side, players must get from one side of the box to the other with out getting hit by a torpedo (ball) if hit they must join the coaches team

Strike with laces, keep ball on ground, bend knee, get knee over the top of the ball, follow through in direction of target

CONDITIONED GAME
30-40 minutes

Players must shoot first time when trying to score

Re-enforce points

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

In 2’s, 4x4 box

Feeder passes to player and he must successfully control the ball inside the small box, Progression, move to different parts of the body, feet, thigh, chest

Come to meet the ball, choose which surface to control the ball with, correct preparation for contact with ball positive 1st touch in front to run on to.

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

Magic Triangle 3 yard triangle

Players have a maximum of 4 touches, in 2’s players will have a triangle, players will softly pass through the triangle, control the ball and take it to a different side of the box and return the pass, if a player cannot successfully take the ball to another side of the triangle and pass it back through within 4 touches the opponent gets a point.

Come to meet the ball, choose which surface to control the ball with, correct preparation for contact with ball positive 1st touch in front to run on to.

CONDITIONED GAME
60-70 minutes

Small sided games enforcing control

Condition = players must take a maximum of 4 touches

Re-enforce Dribbling points

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4V4
70-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field - 30 x 24 yards ( 24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game

85-90 minutes
