WEEK SIX -- PASSING/SHOOTING

AIM OF SESSION: To develop confidence on the ball, to develop passing and shooting technique

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

Dribble tag, in a 10x10 yard area in pairs, 1 with ball, 1 without, player with ball must try to tag partner and wins a point. Rotate players around team

Keep active

Lots of touches with correct technique – laces

Head up

Keep ball close

React quickly

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Passing game – 20x26 yard field split with a halfway line
2 teams of four, players must try and pass all the balls on their side to the opposite side of the field, winner if player manage to get all balls in opposite side

Strong standing (supporting) leg alongside ball, bend knee, look at ball strike with inside of foot

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Road Runner – 15x15 yard area, 2 catchers with balls

Players have to run from one side of the grid to the other without getting struck by the ball, if struck they become the catcher as well

Strong standing (supporting) leg alongside ball, bend knee, look at ball strike with inside of foot

CONDITIONED GAME
30-40 minutes

Small sided games enforcing Control

Condition = must complete 3 passes before scoring

Re-enforce points

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

Striking in 2’s player 1 and player 2

Player 1 facing goal, 2 facing 1, 6 yards apart, 2 passes to 1, 2 follows pass and opens legs when close to 1, 1 passes through 2s legs, 2 turns and shoots.

Progression:
Introduce GK

Strike with laces

Toe/knee/chin over the ball when striking

Follow through in direction of Target

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

Striking in 3s, Player 1 +2

Player 1 facing goal, 2 facing 1, 6 yards apart, 1 passes to 2, 2 lays off to 1, 1 shoots on the GK, 2 turns and follows up shot

Strike with laces

Toe/knee/chin over the ball when striking

Follow through in direction of Target

CONDITONED GAME
60-70 minutes

Small sided games enforcing dribbling

Condition = players must dribble into wide position (a box) before scoring

Re-enforce Dribbling points

SMALL SIDED GAMES -- 4v4
70-85 minutes

4v4 Small-Sided Field  - 30 x 24 yards ( 24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game

85-90 minutes
