WEEK FIVE -- CONTROL/DRIBBLING

AIM OF SESSION: To develop confidence on the ball, to develop control and dribbling technique

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

Gladiators – Players must dribble from one side of the box to the other.  Coach will try to pass his soccer ball against their ball as they pass.  If ball hits, they are then on coaches side.

Keep active

Lots of touches with correct technique – laces

Head up

Keep ball close

React quickly

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Working in 2’s, Player 1 passes ball into player 2, player 2 controls the ball and returns a pass

Progression:

Player 1 Bounces ball into player 2

Player 1 throws ball into player 2’s thigh

Come to meet the ball, choose the correct surface to control the ball, positive 1st touch out of feet, keep ball moving

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Control in 3’s + Shoot.  Player 1 is the passer, player 2 the receiver and player 3 the defender. 1 passes to 2, 2 turn past 3 and shoots, rotate after 3 shots each

Come to meet the ball, choose the correct surface to control the ball, positive 1st touch out of feet, keep ball moving

CONDITIONED GAME
30-40 minutes

Small sided games enforcing Control

Condition = Maximum of 4 touches on the ball

Re-enforce points

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

Cartoons - Each box is a different cartoon and the players must dribble their soccer ball wherever the coach commands.

Progression:
Players must toe-tap inside box, players must perform a turn inside box

Head Up – looking for space, pass, shot

Use laces to dribble quickly

Keep the ball moving at all time

Speed away from players

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

Dribbling Relay- 3 in a team

Fast paced, teams must dribble around a set amount of cones in front of them continually switching man,

Progression: make it a race

Head Up – looking for space, pass, shot

Use laces to dribble quickly

Keep the ball moving at all time

Speed away from players

CONDITIONED GAME
60-70 minutes

Small sided games enforcing dribbling

Condition = players must dribble into wide position (a box) before scoring

Re-enforce Dribbling points

SMALL SIDED GAMES -- 4V4
70-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field - 30 x 24 yards ( 24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game

85-90 minutes
