AIM OF SESSION: To Improve passing technique and learn new turns in order to control the ball better

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

Foxes + Farmers - 20x15 yard grid -2 catchers (farmers), all other players (foxes) with pinnies (tails) in their shorts.  Farmers must chase foxes, if the foxes’ tail gets pulled out, the fox becomes a farmer, play until there is a winner

Progression:
1 – Introduce ball

Turn tail away from farmer to protect it.

Twist and turn

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Follow The Leader– 20x20 yard area, 8 sets of gates within grid

In 2’s, one ball between 2, Players will follow each other going through the gates; the ball will be with the leader. Players will change on command. 

Progression:
1 - At gate, Player will take 3 steps back and pass the ball to partner
2 - At gate, Players will take 4 steps back and pass the ball 3 times

When passing, think of Mickey Mouse as the ball. 1- step on his ear, 2 – squeeze down, 3 – point your toe to the target, 4 – look at the ball, 5- use the inside of your feet, 6 – kick him on the nose

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

Passing in 3’s – 1 ball between 3, 1 player in middle with legs open, players either side of middle man pass the ball through there legs. Continue for 1.5 minutes and swap middle person. 

Progression:
1 – After a pass, follow pass and swap position with middle person
2 – After pass the middle person pivots( forcing the passers to move position)

30-40 minutes

Small sided games enforcing passing

Condition = before scoring a team must complete 3 passes

Re-enforce Passing technique

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

Skill Gates – 20x20 yard grid, Gates scattered within grid

Players must dribble through gates, keeping the ball close.  When they approach the gate, they must perform a skills turn – Twellman Twist,  Ronaldo, Zidane

Use different parts of the feet to dribble

Keep the ball close

React quickly to command

Disguise turn

Burst away after turn

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

Star Wars - 20x20 yard grid, Gates scattered within grid

1v1, 1 ball between 2, players will play against each other.  players will score a point if the can dribble the ball  through a gate and perform one of the turns  they have just learned

Attack quickly

Disguise turn

Burst away after turn

CONDITONED GAME
60-70 minutes

Small sided games enforcing passing

Condition = a maximum of 4 touches on the ball

Re-enforce controlling technique

SMALL-SIDED GAMES - 4V4
70-85 minutes

Small Sided Field - 30 x 24 yards (24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game

COOL DOWN
85-90 minutes
