WEEK ONE -- DRIBBLING/PASSING

AIM OF SESSION: To develop confidence on the ball, to improve the dribbling technique, to improve passing technique

SESSION ONE

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

Freeze Tag – 20x15 yard grid, 2 catchers

Players must run away from catchers, if caught they must stand with their feet open and can not move until one of the players crawl through.

Change direction quickly

Head up

Free teammates as quickly as possible

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Pirates of the Caribbean20x15 yard grid

Players must dribble their ball around the grid listening for commands, set sail = go,  anchor = stop

Progression:
1 – Row boat = slow, Ship = medium, Black Pearl = fast
2 – Climb the mast (tap the top of the ball)
3 – Scrub the decks ( roll the ball back and forth using both feet)

Three rules of dribbling:

1 – Keep the ball close

2- Use your lace to dribble fast

3 – Keep your head up

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Harry Potter - 20x20 yard grid, balls in center, four teams at corners of grid.  Players must run into center of shrieks swamp and pick up a ball and return to their base, high-5 the next player and they run, 10 points for each ball.

Progression:
1 = Use your feet to steal from center
2 = Steal from other teams

Three rules of dribbling:

1 – Keep the ball close

2- Use your lace to dribble fast

3 – Keep your head up

CONDITIONED GAME
30-40 minutes

Small sided games enforcing dribbling

Condition = Dribble past a player before you can score

Re-enforce dribbling points

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

Passing in 2’s – in pairs, 1 ball between 2,

Receiver must stand with their legs open, passer will try to kick the ball through the receivers legs,.

Progression:
1 – Position players further back
2 – Turn it into a competition, whoever scores the most in 2 minutes wins

When passing, think of Mickey Mouse as the ball. 1- step on his ear, 2 – squeeze down, 3 – point your toe to the target, 4 – look at the ball, 5- use the inside of your feet, 6 – kick him on the nose

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

Ball Smash1 cone between 2, place a ball on top of a cone and player stand on opposite sides from each other and 3 steps away from the ball.  Players must pass ball and knock off the ball on the cone, Alternate shots.

Progression:
1- Make players stand further back from cone
2- First pair to Knock the ball off 10 times win the game

CONDITONED GAME
60-70 minutes

Small sided games enforcing passing

Condition = Players must make at least 2 passes before scoring

Re-enforce passing points

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4V4
70-85 minutes

Small Sided Field  - 30 x 24 yards (24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throwings.

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game
