MLS Camps U8 Development Program

8-Week Overview

This 8-week overview shows the skills that will be worked on during the season:

If there is a rain day, contact an MLS Camps Trainer who will inform you of changes that can be made to the program.

MLS Camps Goals for the U8 program:

  • To Improve each child’s technical skill

  • To educate and support coaches with a development program.

  • To provide each child with enjoyment in a safe, friendly and positive learning environment.

  • Introduce 6v6 positions.

Methodology:

  • Provide a training program for all U8 coaches.

  • MLS Camps trainers will attend your practices at least 2 times through out the season to assist volunteer coaches.

  • MLS Camps trainers will implement the development program and evaluate the session they attend.  Providing a written evaluation on how the coach should progress the following sessions.

  • MLS Camps trainers will provide age specific coaching clinics.

Session Structure:

Warm-Up  Introductory Activity 7.5 minutes 
Exercise One  Skill One/ Mild Pressure  10 minutes 
Exercise Two  Skill One/ Full Pressure  10 minutes 
Conditioned Game 

Small Sided Game Enforcing Skill One 

10 minutes 
Exercise Three  Skill Two/ Mild Pressure  10 minutes 
Exercise Four Skill Two/ Full Pressure  10 minutes 
Conditioned Game  Small Sided Game Enforcing Skill Two 10 minutes 
Small Sided Game  Free play  10 minutes 
Cool Down  Relaxing Movements  7.5 minutes
