WEEK FIVE -- CONTROL/PENETRATION

AIM OF SESSION: To Improve Controlling technique, incorporate Penetration into game play

SESSION FIVE

ORGANIZATION

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control.

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Control Circle – Half players with ball on a cone, Half players with out ball. In side circle,

Players without ball must run to a player with a ball and control it along the ground and return, moving on to a different player.

Progressions: Control with: Volley, Thigh, Chest, Head

Come to meet the ball, choose the correct surface to control the ball, positive 1st touch out of feet, keep ball moving

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Triangle Control, make 2 yard triangle, 1v1, player 1 passes through gate, player 2 must control ball and take it around to another side of the triangle and pass, players have a maximum of 3 touches.  Players score points when opponent takes too many touches or hits a cone with the ball

Come to meet the ball, choose the correct surface to control the ball, positive 1st touch out of feet, keep ball moving

GAME RELATED PRACTICE
30-40 minutes

3v3 in middle with 1 end player for each team behind an end line, Players must successfully pass to there target player who is positioned behind the opposite teams end line and he/she must control it to score a point

Come to meet the ball, choose the correct surface to control the ball, positive 1st touch out of feet, keep ball moving

CONDITIONED GAME
40-50 minutes

Players can only take a maximum of three touches on the ball which will force players to

Re-enforce control technique

BEDDING DOWN
50-60 minutes

Penetration 2v1 15x 10 yard area

Defender passes to attacker, attacker must dribble defenders line

GAME RELATED PRACTICE
60-75 minutes

6v6 game, 4v4 in the middle with an attacker on each side in and end zone that is 18 yards from goal, each goal will have a GK.  Teams must penetrate a pass or dribble into the 18 yard end zone from the striker to shoot.

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4V4
75-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field - 35 x 22 yards ( 24 = 10 yards either side of a 2 yard goal)

Ensure team is still working at a high tempo.

Re-enforce sessions points, don’t loose focus of group

COOL DOWN
85-90 minutes

Relaxing Movement + recap session

Slow + gentle movements
