SESSION TWO

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control.  It will come as a separate guide which will be attacked to this document

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Angled passing Groups 2 balls

4 groups of 4/6 players standing 8 yards at compass points away from each other.  Players pass directly across from them and turn and run to the back of the line.

Progression.
1. Sprint to the left/right after a pass
2. Sprint to the group opposite

Strike through to center of the ball

Sprint to next group

Timing with the other ball is key

Quality first touch in front of player to keep ball moving

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Numbered Possession – 4v2 20x 15 yard grid

Pressure situation where the 4 players on the outside of the grid must maintain possession of the ball, if a middle player wins the ball then they go on the outside in place of the player who misplaced the pass

Communication - Information, awareness of other players around, move toward ball, positive 1st touch, keep ball moving

GAME-RELATED PRACTICE
30-40 minutes

4v4 Small-Sided Game – 3 cones with balls on top at either end

Players must successfully knock ball off cone to win point, if all balls are knocked off the team wins

Head Up – looking for space, pass, shot

Use laces to dribble quickly

Keep the ball moving at all time

Speed away from players

CONDITIONED GAME
40-50 minutes

Complete 5 passes before scoring

 

Re- enforce passing technique

BEDDING DOWN
50-60 minutes

 

Support 2v1 – 2 attackers 1 defender 16x10 yard grid

An attacker at either end of grid, A1 passes to A2 and attackers must pass D’s line.

GAME-RELATED PRACTICE
60-75 minutes

Target man - 4v4
3v3 in the middle with a Target Man in an end zone for each team, to score a point, players must successfully pass and control the ball inside the end zone.

Progression
1. Player must complete a give and go with the TM to score a point
2. Players must complete a 3rd man running give and go to score a point

SMALL-SIDED GAMES - 4V4
75-85 minutes

4v4 Small-Sided Field - 35 x 24 yards ( 24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

Ensure team is still working at a high tempo.

Re-enforce sessions points, don’t loose focus of group
