COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control. Click here for an explanation of 1000 Touches.

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Numbered passing 20x30 yard area with a halfway line down middle

Players 1-4 must pass in sequence

On the opposite side of the box another group is doing the exact same exercise

Progression, use different parts of the foot

Foot alongside ball and get low to the ball

Point your supporting foot towards the target

Use the inside of your foot to strike the canter of the ball

Create and angle to receive the ball

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

Both groups working together now, after side 1 complete 4 passes 1 player from side 2 comes over the halfway line to intercept the ball, if side 1 successfully complete 4 more passes another player enters the side until the ball is intercepted and then side 2 start with the ball

EXERCISE THREE
30-40 minutes

In 2’s, players stand 8 yards from each other, player 1 closest to goal, player 2 furthest away

Player 1 passes to player 2 + follows pass, when close players 1 opens legs, player to passes the ball through 1’s legs and 1 turns and shoots

Strike with laces

Toe/knee/chin over the ball when striking

Follow through in direction of Target

EXERCISE FOUR
40-50 minutes

4v4 – 4 goals
Each team can shoot at any four goals

Strike with laces

Toe/knee/chin over the ball when striking

Follow through in direction of Target

BEDDING DOWN
50-60 minutes

 

Support 2v1 – 2 attackers 1 defender 16x10 yard grid

An attacker at either end of grid,  A1 passes to A2 and attackers must pass D’s line.

Positive 1st touch support forward, negative 1st touch support deep,

Communicate – man on, time, turn

GAME RELATED PRACTICE
60-75 minutes

Target Man – 4v4 with 1 target man

One player must successfully pass to TM and another player must support the pass and complete a give and go, if successful the team gain a point

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4V4
75-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field - 30 x 24 yards (24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.

Re-enforce sessions points, don’t loose focus of group

COOL DOWN
85-90 minutes

Relaxing Movement + recap session

Slow + gentle movements
