AIM OF SESSION: To improve dribbling technique, to encourage shielding and introduce the principle of Width

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control.

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Dribble Gates Players must dribble through gates and changing direction

Progression at gate:
1. 5 yard sprint
2. Perform a turn
3. 3 keepy ups

Head Up – looking for space, pass, shot

Use laces to dribble quickly

Keep the ball moving at all time

Speed away from Cones

Use inside/outside of feet to turn

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

2v2 Dribbling – Gates scattered round a 30x20 yard area

In teams of 2, players must successfully dribble through a gate and then pass to their partner

Head Up – looking for space, pass, shot

Use laces to dribble quickly

Keep the ball moving at all time

Speed away from players

Head up early to pass

EXERCISE THREE
30-40 minutes

Shielding in 2’s – 30x20 yard area, Gates in corners of grid

In pairs. 1 player has to protect the ball and the other must attempt to steal the ball

Progression:
1. Player must continually keep the ball moving
2. Players must shield ball and dribble to corner

Get Low, 1 foot in front of the other

Feet shoulder width apart

Get between the player and ball

Be strong

Use your fore to protect yourself

EXERCISE FOUR
40-50 minutes

4v4 Shielding game 30x20 yard field a center zone in middle of field.

1 player from each team in center zone, rest of team must be in their defending zone, players must pass to center player for him to shield + hold the ball while teammates over lap into attacking third, center player passes to teammates for them to score

Get Low, 1 foot in front of the other

Feet shoulder width apart

Get between the player and ball

Be strong

Release ball when you have earned time

BEDDING DOWN
50-60 minutes

GAME RELATED PRACTICE 60-70 minutes

4v4 Wingers Game – 35x 28 with a 4 yard channel down each side

Players must enter wide channel before scoring

Re Enforce Width points

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4V4 70-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field  - 30 x 24 yards ( 24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game

85-90 minutes
