COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control. Click here for an explanation of 1000 Touches.

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Angled passes – Working in 2’s

Player 1 must pass through gate, receiver controls ball to side and makes an angled pass back to player 1.

Progression:
1. Use weak foot to pass ball
2. use outside of foot to pass ball

Foot alongside ball and get low to the ball

Point your supporting foot towards the target

Use the inside of your foot to strike the canter of the ball

Create and angle to receive the ball

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Numbered Possession – 4v2 20x 15 yard grid

Pressure situation where the 4 players on the outside of the grid must maintain possession of the ball, if a middle player wins the ball then they go on the outside in place of the player who misplaced the pass

Foot alongside ball and get low to the ball

Point your supporting foot towards the target

Use the inside of your foot to strike the centre of the ball

Create and angle to receive the ball

EXERCISE THREE
30-40 minutes

Control Circle Half players with ball

Players with ball form a circle and stand stationary, rest of players sprint to ball and must control a pass along the ground.

Progression
1. control on thigh/chest/head

On the balls of your feet

Move towards the ball

Create angle to the side

First touch out of feet

EXERCISE FOUR
40-50 minutes

King of the Ring - 10x15 yard area

Each player has a ball, players must protect their own ball and kick another players ball away at the same time.  If a player looses their ball, they must complete 5 keepy-ups and return back to the grid to play again

On the balls of your feet

Head up

Attack quickly

First touch out of feet

BEDDING DOWN
50-60 minutes

 

Support 2v1 – 2 attackers 1 defender 16x10 yard grid

An attacker at either end of grid,  A1 passes to A2 and attackers must pass D’s line.

Positive 1st touch support forward, negative 1st touch support deep,

Communicate – man on, time, turn

GAME RELATED PRACTICE
60-70 minutes

Flipper 4v4

3v3 in the middle with a Target Man in an end zone for each team, to score a point players must successfully pass and control the ball inside the end zone

Be direct,

Create angle to receive pass, think of outlet before your in possession of the ball to keep the ball moving quickly

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4v4
70-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field  - 30 x 24 yards (24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game

85-90 minutes
