COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control.  Click here for an explanation of 1000 Touches.

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Passing in 6’s – 2 lines of 3 players – 1 ball

Players must pass the ball to the opposite line and explode to the back of their own line, Progression, players must explode and join the opposite line after pass

1st time unless poor pass, take a touch

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Number pass with lofted pass – 20 x20 yard area, 5 yard box in each corner

3 players to a box, each box has a ball, when a team passes the ball 3 times they must complete a lofted pass diagonally across from them, teams should play the lofted pass at the same time!

CONDITIONED GAME
30-40 minutes

Small sided games enforcing passing, complete 5 passes before scoring

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

MLS Teams – 20x10 yard area, each side of the box is represented by the name of an MLS teams.  Players must dribble to the side commanded by the coach.

Progression:
Perform drag back turn at side, Perform step over,

Inside/outside to keep close control

Head up look for space

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

1v1 – 10 x 15

Attacker starts with the ball and must successfully dribble past the defender and wins a point

GAME RELATED PRACTICE
60-70 minutes

Soccer pool - set up four gates in each corner of the field instead of goals, they will act like pockets on a pool table, players must dribble through gates to score a goal

Re-enforce dribbling points

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4v4
70-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field 30 x 24 yards (24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game

85-90 minutes
