WEEK SIX -- PASSING/SHOOTING

SESSION SIX

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control. Click here for an explanation of 1000 Touches.

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Working in 6s 2 lines of 3, one ball, player 1 passes to player 2, and spins the back of the line, 2returns pass to next in line and spins off

Progression : Player follows pass and joins back of next line

Foot alongside ball and get low to the ball

Point your supporting foot towards the target

Use the inside of your foot to strike the center of the ball

Create and angle to receive the ball

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

2v2 – 20x20 yard area, 3 cones with balls on top at either end of the grid

Teams will try and knock off opponents balls, when all 3 balls are knocked off the game is won

Foot alongside ball and get low to the ball

Point your supporting foot towards the target

Use the inside of your foot to strike the center of the ball

Create and angle to receive the ball

CONDITIONED GAME
30-40 minutes

Small sided games enforcing passing complete 5 passes before scoring

Re-enforce Passing points

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

Shooting in 2s – Player 1 passes the ball through player 2’s legs, player 2 runs and strikes at goal

Progression:
Player 1 throws ball over player 2’s head and player 2 hit a half volley at goal

Player 2 lays down, 1 throws over 2, 2 must jump up and strike at the goal

React quickly, focus on pace and direction of ball, position yourself correctly, strike the center of the ball with the laces, get your knee over the ball, follow through in the direction of the target

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

1v1 + Goalkeeper
Players challenge each other 1v1 and must strike at goal as early as possible, after each goal the looser becomes goalkeeper

Strike at first opportunity.  Hit low/hard/across the goalkeeper.  Strike with the laces and follow through in direction of the target,

CONDITONED GAME
60-70 minutes

2v2, after each goal the teams change ends and shoot on the opposite goal.

Re-enforce shooting points

SMALL SIDED GAMES – 4v4
70-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field - 30 x 24 yards ( 24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game

85-90 minutes
