WEEK THREE -- DRIBBLING / SHIELDING

COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control.

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Circle Fake – set out large circle and have player stand beside a cone facing towards center of circle, player must dribble into center cone, perform a turn and return back to the outside cone.

Head Up – looking for space, pass, shot

Use laces to dribble quickly

Keep the ball moving at all time

Speed away from center

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Dribble Relay – in teams of 3, players must use their skill to dribble around a sequence of cones and objects and high-5 the next partner.

Head Up – looking for space, pass, shot

Use laces to dribble quickly

Keep the ball moving at all time

Use inside and outside to keep the ball close

CONDITIONED GAME
30-40 minutes

Small sided games enforcing dribbling

Condition = Dribble past a player before you can score

Re-enforce Dribbling points

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

Shielding in 2’s – In pairs. 1 player has to protect a piney that has been placed on their hip,

Progression
1. Place piney on ground and protect it
2. Replace piney with ball

Get Low, 1 foot in front of the other

Feet shoulder width apart

Get between the player and ball

Be strong

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

Shielding Box – working in 3’s - 4x4 yard box

The player with the ball must hold off a defender for 10 seconds and complete a pass to the third player outside the box

 

Get Low, 1 foot in front of the other

Feet shoulder width apart

Get between the player and ball

Be strong

CONDITONED GAME
60-70 minutes

Small sided games enforcing dribbl ing

Condition = 3 Passes before you can score

Re-enforce Dribbling points

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4V4
70-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field - 30 x 24 yards ( 24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game
