COACHING POINTS

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control.  Click here for an explanation of 1000 Touches.

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

Working In 4’s - Passing to the spare player

2 players in possession of the ball.  1 player spare and 1 player working, the player working receives a pass from 1 of the 2 with a ball and passes to the spare player and continue on.

Foot alongside ball and get low to the ball

Point your supporting foot towards the target

Use the inside of your foot to strike the center of the ball

Create and angle to receive the ball

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

Dodge ball – 15x 10 yard grid

Half players with ball and chase the other half, hit below the knee and player will become frozen until a team mate crawls through their legs to free them.

Foot alongside ball and get low to the ball

Point your supporting foot towards the target

Use the inside of your foot to strike the center of the ball

CONDITIONED GAME
30-40 minutes

Small sided games enforcing dribbling

Condition = successfully complete 4 passes before scoring

Re-enforce Passing points

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

Working in 3’s – receive/ turn/ pass

In 3’s, player passes to middleman, he turns and plays it out the opposite side.

Progression
1. use different feet and different parts of the foot
2. introduce a second ball into the movement

Move towards the ball

Create angle to the side

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

Working in 4’s – soccer golf

Place 2 cones 10 yard apart, in 2’s against another team of 2, a player from each team at either cone. Player 1 will pass to their partner and the partner has 1 touch to control it closest to the hole, whoever is closest wins a point

CONDITONED GAME
60-70

Small sided ga mes enforcing dribbling

Condition = a maximum of 4 touches

Re-enforce control points

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4V4
70-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field  - 30 x 24 yards (24 = 10 yards either side of a 4 yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.
