WEEK ONE -- DRIBBLING AND PASSING

WARM UP
0-10 minutes

1000 Touches – 20x20 yard area
This warm-up will be consistent throughout the ages and will work on close control. Click here for an explanation of 1000 Touches.

EXERCISE ONE
10-20 minutes

 

 

 

MLS Teams – 20x15 yard grid
Each side of the grid is named one of the MLS teams, when commanded, the players must dribble he ball to that specific side.

Progression:
Perform a turn at the side
Juggle at the side

Head Up – looking for space, pass, shot

Use laces to dribble quickly

Keep the ball moving at all time

Speed away from players

EXERCISE TWO
20-30 minutes

 

 

1v1 dribbling – 1 cone + 1 ball per pair. 1 player will defend the cone one player will attack the cone, If the attacker hits the cone with the ball they win a point, if the defender wins the ball then their roles reverse and the defender becomes the attacker.  Count the points.

Head Up – looking for space, pass, shot

Use laces to dribble quickly

Keep the ball moving at all time

Speed away from players

CONDITIONED GAME
30-40 minutes

Small sided games enforcing dribbling – Condition = Dribble past a player before you can score

Re-enforce Dribbling points

EXERCISE THREE
40-50 minutes

 

Passing in 3’s – 1 ball between 3, 1 player in middle with legs open, players either side of middle man pass the ball through there legs. Continue for 1.5 minutes and swap middle person.

Progression:
1 – After a pass, follow pass and swap position with middle person
2 – After pass the middle person pivots (forcing the passers to move position)

Foot alongside ball and get low to the ball

Point your supporting foot towards the target

Use the inside of your foot to strike the centre of the ball

Create and angle to receive the ball

EXERCISE FOUR
50-60 minutes

Soccer Bowling- in teams of 4, 1 ball per team, place three cones 3 yards away from them.  2 of the 3 cones will have a ball on top which will be the targets.  If a player successfully knocks a ball off the cone, they must pick the toppled ball and place it on another team’s empty cone. The winner is the team that knocks off all of their cones. Winners will step 1 yard further back and repeat game.

CONDITONED GAME
60-70 minutes

Small sided games enforcing dribbling – Condition = 3 Passes before you can score

Re-enforce Dribbling points

SMALL SIDED GAMES - 4V4
70-85 minutes

4v4 Small Sided Field  - 30 x 24 yards (24 = 10 yards either side of a 4-yard goal)

This wide area will ensure maximum playing time without as many breaks in play for throw-ins.

Allow to play, let each child enjoy the game
