Ross Duncan,
Sudbury Soccer's director of coaching, has written a series of guides for
coaches of teams at various age levels, outlining the basics of SYSA's
training program, and including tips on teaching skills, picking formations,
and organizing practices in a fun, structured, and age-appropriate manner.
The guides can
be downloaded below in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. Acrobat requires the free
Acrobat Reader.
Session
plans for each week are available in .pdf format for older age groups, but the documents are
passworded. Coaches will be given the password, or it's available from your
age-group coordinator, or from Ross Duncan. Session pages also include video
animations that help explain individual drills and exercises.
Working
with Advanced Players (U14)
This
program for coaches of 13- and 14-year-olds concentrates on teaching 11v11
field awareness and tactics, along with more advanced skills and
ball-control techniques.
Overview
and theory: Working with Advanced Players focuses on teaching
more advanced topics, like recognizing and adapting to
the four phases of the play, and includes specific drills to support these
concepts. It also includes nutrition and hydration tips for coaches to pass

Working
with Youth Players (U11-U12)
This
program is for coaches of fifth- and sixth-grade
teams, an age where the sport is becoming more and more competitive and
players move up to 8-a-side games on larger fields.

skill building, and features tips on coaching mixed-level teams and
