Updated: Wednesday, January 13, 2010
Sudbury Soccer is holding three six-week sessions of
Futsal during the winter of 2009-10 at The FieldHouse in Chiswick Park in Sudbury.
The first session runs from Nov. 2 to Dec. 18, 2009; Session 2 from Jan. 4 to Feb. 12, 2010; Session 3 from Feb. 23 to April 2, 2010. Registration is closed for the first session, but
players can still register for sessions 2 and 3. Session 2 registration opens Nov. 16; Session 3 registration opens Jan.
19, 2010. Each team will play one (sometimes two) games per week at either 4, 5, or
6 p.m., for five weeks. The sixth week of the session will be playoffs. Players register as individuals, not as teams.
Sudbury Soccer will form the teams so they are balanced. Times and days are as follows: U9 and U10, separate boys’ and girls’ leagues, Mondays, 4-7 p.m. U11 and U12, separate boys’ and girls’ leagues, Fridays, 5-7 p.m. U14, co-ed league, boys and girls will be mixed on each team, Wednesdays,
4-7 p.m. What is Futsal? Futsal is a small-sided soccer game similar to indoor soccer, but without the boards. A futsal game has five players on a side, including a goalie. It is played all around the world, particularly in powerful soccer nations like Brazil, Argentina, Holland, and Germany. It is the only indoor soccer program recognized and supported by FIFA, soccer's world governing body. Futsal is played with a special size 4 ball that has less bounce. That keeps it on the ground more, forcing players to use more skill in passing. Futsal allows players to touch the ball nearly 12 times more than playing 11v11 soccer. Players also learn how to defend and attack from any position on the field. Skill benefits to the player are endless. Futsal is played on a wooden basketball court, so regular sneakers should be worn. Reversible jerseys may be purchased on your AdminSports registration page. If you have questions regarding registration contact: Administrative Director Sandy Moore at 978 443-1321, or sudburysoccer@aol.com.
