Paid coaches?

SYSA is a volunteer organization using volunteer coaches (principally parents) and also uses certain providers for professional coaching assistance as part of its Player/Coach Development program.

At the high school level only, teams can be coached by a hired professional.

For all other teams, supplemental coaching assistance is provided through SYSA’s player development program.  In addition to the SYSA assistance, SYSA coaches/teams are permitted to hire at their expense coaches for additional training sessions provided that the provider is pre-approved by the SYSA Vice President of Development and that such assistance does not exceed 3 hours over and above the hours provided through the SYSA program.  The pre-approval will include confirmation that the provider has submitted a “Kid-Safe” form for all individuals conducting the training and other conditions deemed necessary by SYSA.

Coaches violating this policy, directly or indirectly, will not be allowed to continue coaching SYSA teams.

Please note:  This policy does not limit the ability of any SYSA player to participate in any training, tournament or skill development program.  It does, however, prohibit a coach from arranging training sessions beyond the above limits when those sessions are closed sessions for his/her team.
